ABOUT JILL

Specializing in Wedding Dance Instruction

I love to teach dance and started specializing in wedding couples in the early 2000s when I recognized a need for professional dance instruction tailored to the wedding dance and the wedding couple's time, budget and song requirements.

Rainbow Wedding First Dance came out of my thoughts to put up a web site to let LGBT couples know that I am available for their special day. There is no time like the present to start taking some dance lessons so you can dance comfortably full of romance and fun with each other on your special day.

Born in Pasadena, I grew up in Upland where I began my dancing career while still in elementary school. Once we moved to Mission Viejo I had the honor of being on pointe for many a Nutcracker performance with Ballet Pacifica. I entered UCI with sophomore standing and continued to dance in Eugene Loring's dance department. (He was the choreographer that invented the ballet, "Billy The Kid".) Upon receiving my BA and Masters in a five year program that awarded both degrees, I traveled extensively throughout Europe and the South Pacific and took a little time out to have my lovely daughter.

In the 90s and 2000s I directed numerous full length and one act plays in venues and theaters all over Orange County and was artistic director of a local community theater in San Juan Capistrano for seven years. I am also a theatrical coach and instructor in scene study, cold readings and playwriting as well as the founder of the West Coast Ten-Minute Play Contest and Festival. (Getty Images actually has an old picture of me from an article in the LA Times about my play contest, haha!)

Jillian Forbath of Our Wedding Dance at the New Avant Garde BallroomFor over 12 years, I reenacted the American Civil War in a variety of personas from a Northern vivandiere (nurse) to a Southern belle to a border states bushwhacker - bringing first person education to the public about this period of US history. I have appeared in the History Channel's Sex and the Civil War and in the movie "America's Sweethearts" as well as in a variety of stage productions in LA and Orange counties. In 2012 I was filmed in NatGeo's Party Like Series entitled, "Party Like the Rich & Famous" dancing in my gorgeous green hooped and petticoated ball gown for a segment on the Bradley-Martin Ball of the late 1800s.

Coaching and continuing education have always been a priority with me and I have studied under more than 25 professional ballroom, Latin and tango dance instructors and coaches gaining important insights into patterns, partnering, technique and teaching.

At the following California competitions I competed professionally in American Smooth dancing the Waltz, Foxtrot, American Tango and Viennese Waltz:

I teach out of the DVIDA sanctioned syllabi for American Smooth, Rhythm and Argentine Tango dances and combine my experiences in the business and the artistic worlds to bring the concepts and step movement to my dance students in innovative and exciting ways. I have been a member of the Dance Council of America for over fifteen years.

In my spare time I like to create new dance patterns, make one-of-a-kind earrings, write in my blog and mix essential oils to create therapeutic washes and scrubs. I'm currently designing and crafting shoe bows with my online shop on Etsy called ShoeBeaus. MY TIP:

I've been dancing all of my life.

In fact, I can't remember a time when I haven't been doing ballet, tap, modern dance, jazz, song leading, musicals, ice skating, ballroom, Latin or hip hop for performances or just for my own education.

Dancing is a very spiritual part of me. When I'm in need of a "pick me up", I reach for my iPod and just dance... I immediately feel better.
